What Is Claude Duet, and How Is It Different From ChatGPT Dots
Claude Duet is Anthropic's new proactive agent that sends a brief every morning. How it works, who can use it yet, and how it differs from ChatGPT Dots.

Claude Duet is a new app from Anthropic in which Claude works as a proactive agent. It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask for, keeps working while you're away, and asks for approval before acting on your behalf. Duet was announced on October 21, 2026 as a research preview, and for now only Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States can use it, through a waitlist.
The biggest differences from ChatGPT Dots are the entry price, how it works day to day, and availability. Details below.
How Claude Duet works
According to Anthropic's official announcement, Duet is built for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track.
- A brief every morning. Duet sends a short summary of the most important items from your connected apps.
- Checks your apps every few hours. It only messages you when something needs your attention. Anthropic deliberately doesn't have it check nonstop, because that would use up your plan's limits quickly.
- Works on tasks in the background. Duet has a virtual machine with its own browser, so your laptop or phone doesn't need to be on.
- Brings context from your Claude account. Your memory, skills, and connected apps carry over from your Claude account.
- Thousands of connectors. Duet can use the more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, such as Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, HubSpot, Canva, and Shopify.
Anthropic says Duet is designed around Claude Opus 5.5. Its example tasks range from scheduling meetings to building dashboards, sales forecasts, and web app prototypes.
Its guardrails
Before Duet sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything, it shows you what it's about to do and waits for your approval. Some actions stay blocked even if you approve, such as trading securities and moving money between accounts.
On its security page, Anthropic writes that Duet never sees your passwords, browser cookies, or sign-in tokens. The encrypted password is passed to the browser unopened. There's also a separate classifier that checks every message Duet is about to send, refuses to share credentials and government ID numbers, and only lets other private data through when you've explicitly asked for it.

Cheapest plan that includes the agent, per month(USD)
- Claude Pro (Duet)$20
- ChatGPT Pro (Dots)$100
The price gap is big, but there's a catch. Duet uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude, and its background checks count toward them. Anthropic also notes that big tasks like a financial model or a deck take more model turns. So for heavy use, you may still need a Max plan, which starts at $100.
In terms of how it works, Duet leans into being proactive: a morning brief and a heads-up when something needs you. Dots leans into ongoing responsibility, and can create Work or Codex tasks on its own. How Dots differs from Work is covered in ChatGPT Work vs Dots, When to Use Which?.
What's still limited
Anthropic itself lists several limitations in this early version:
- Duet can still misread a thread or misjudge what's urgent.
- Its abilities are built around work, so personal errands like booking tickets aren't as strong yet.
- Duet can't show you its browser yet.
- Duet runs in its own app, separate from the main Claude app.
For readers in Indonesia
For now, Duet is only open to Pro and Max subscribers in the United States through a waitlist, and Anthropic hasn't given a timeline for other countries. So among agents of this kind, the realistic options in Indonesia are still ChatGPT Dots and Grok Bot, as I cover in ChatGPT Dots, Grok Bot, or Meta Muse, Which One Should Be Your Personal AI Assistant?.
What you can prepare now is the access rules. Whichever agent you end up using, least access and approval for risky actions still apply. The guide is in Is It Safe to Sign In to Work Accounts in an AI Agent Like Dots or Grok Bot?.
Wrapping up
Claude Duet adds a proactive agent option with a much lower entry price than Dots, plus guardrails explained in some detail. But for now it's still a research preview and only available in the United States. If you're in Indonesia, keep an eye on it while you set up access rules for your team.
