Gemini vs ChatGPT for Office Work, Which One Fits Better?
Gemini and ChatGPT can both be used for work, but their strengths differ. A plan price comparison in Rupiah, which suits teams on Google Workspace, and when ChatGPT makes more sense.

The biggest difference between Gemini and ChatGPT for office work is where the AI works. Gemini sits right inside Gmail, Docs, and other Google apps, so it fits best for teams that live in Google Workspace every day. ChatGPT is stronger as a workspace of its own, with Work for producing finished documents, Codex for coding, and connectors to many apps. Their prices in Indonesia turn out to be close.
As for which one is smarter, the answer changes almost every month, as I discuss in The Race to Find the Most Advanced AI Model. So this comparison focuses on things that last longer: price, integration, and how they work.
Monthly prices in Indonesia
Personal plan prices per month in Indonesia, October 2026(thousand rupiah)

- ChatGPT GoRp75k
- Google AI ProRp309k

At each tier the prices are similar; what differs is what you get. On the ChatGPT pricing page, Plus (Rp349,000, roughly US$19) includes GPT-6 reasoning models, ChatGPT Work on desktop, web, and mobile, Projects, scheduled tasks, and custom GPTs.
The differences in one table

Choose Gemini if
- Your team already uses Google Workspace. Since January 2025, Gemini features have been included in Workspace Business and Enterprise plans. That means many companies are already paying for Gemini through their Workspace subscription and just need to use it.
- Much of the work happens in Google email and documents. Summarizing Gmail threads, drafting replies, or tidying up a document in Docs can happen without switching apps.
- You need storage too. Google AI Pro also gives 5 TB for Gmail, Drive, and Photos.
Choose ChatGPT if
- The end result is a finished file. Work is designed for researching, analyzing, and creating documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, or Sites, as I cover in ChatGPT Now Has Chat and Work, So Where Does Office Work Go?.
- Your team uses many different apps. ChatGPT Business can connect to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, and GitHub at once.
- There's coding work. Codex is available, with a bigger allowance on paid plans.
- You want an agent that keeps working. A Dot is available on Pro and Business Premium seats. Agents like this are compared in ChatGPT Dots, Grok Bot, or Meta Muse, Which One Should Be Your Personal AI Assistant?.

What about using both?
Many teams end up using both: Gemini for daily work in Gmail and Docs because it's already included in Workspace, and ChatGPT for work that needs a finished deliverable or an agent. That's fine, as long as it's clear who uses what, so subscriptions don't double up without anyone noticing. How to check is in Team Software and AI Subscriptions Keep Growing, So Which Ones Are Actually Used?.
One thing applies to both: personal and business plans treat data differently. For company data, use an account the company manages, not an employee's personal account. I explain why in Want to Summarize Your Company's Financial Data in ChatGPT? Is It Dangerous?.
How to decide in a week
Here's the fairest way, in my view:
- Pick the five most common tasks on your team, for example replying to email, summarizing meetings, and writing the weekly report.
- Do all five on the free plans of both Gemini and ChatGPT, using the same material.
- Note which results need less editing, and which feels more comfortable inside the apps you already use.
The answer is usually clearer than reading benchmark comparisons.
Wrapping up
If your team already lives in Google Workspace, Gemini is often the most economical choice because it's already included in the subscription. If the work needs finished deliverables, many apps, or coding, ChatGPT makes more sense. The prices are almost the same, so decide based on how your team works.
